Salary: Minimal starting pay rate $28.91/hour, Step 1 of 5 step scale, depending on qualifications. Full Benefits, including PERS.
 Grade 220, SPA Represented, Non-Exempt. Additional pay may be available according to bargaining unit contract, such as a Second Language Incentive pay.

Education & Experience:
We are interested in finding applicants who have the experience and/or education necessary to be successful as a Police Officer for the City of Springfield.  Law Enforcement work experience or education can qualify for this position.  A full description of the experience and education for this position can be found in the Police Officer job description linked below.

Skills & Abilities:
Under the supervision of a Sergeant this position enforces state and local laws, and responds to emergencies in an effort to protect life and property. Police Officer duties include responding to life threatening emergencies, investigating crimes, performing community relations and crime prevention functions as well as preparing written and/or typed reports of activities.

Testing & Selection Process:
Before proceeding with application, please review the 'Oregon Physical Abilities (ORPAT)' document found below.

Candidates considered for the Police Officer position will be identified through a series of screening tools and tests including an Employment Application, Qualifying Questionnaire, Written Test, Physical Ability Test, Psychological Exam, Comprehensive Background, Medical Examination to include drug screening for controlled substances, and Oral Interviews.

Aptitude, personality profile, mental and physical fitness, and communication skills will all be evaluated.

The timelines for testing notifications are very short. Please plan accordingly.

Written and Physical Ability testing is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, July 14, 2018. Applicants will be contacted via email with additional testing details. All applicants will be required to pay a non-refundable fee of $15.00 at the time of the written exam to cover testing and scoring costs. You will also be required to show picture identification at the time of the written exam. *This is the only date and location that the written and physical testing will occur.  If you are invited to this stage in the recruitment process, you must be present.

Please note that there is a study guide available for the written test.  Please work directly with the test provider to obtain the materials: IPMA-HR (Entry-level Police Officer Candidate Study Guide). 

The physical test will consist of the Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT).  Please review the 'ORPAT' document below to learn more about the physical ability testing portion. 

Previous ORPAT scores will NOT be accepted.

Oral Boards (Interviews) for applicants who successfully pass the written and physical testing are tentatively scheduled for Sunday and Monday, July 15 and 16, 2018.

*For those candidates who complete the oral board, but who are not subsequently hired, you may be considered for the Reserve Officer position.  This is strictly voluntary on the candidate's part, and will not hinder any future employment opportunities with the Springfield Police Department.  This is merely an opportunity for candidates to build experience for future employment options, if they choose to do so.
