Salary: $18.27- $25.58 per hour (Grade B21), $20.23-$28.33 per hour (Grade B22), depending on qualifications.

Eugene Springfield Fire (ESF), a shared service by the cities of Eugene and Springfield, is seeking a highly motivated EMS Accounting Technician to join the team.  The successful candidate will perform a variety of paraprofessional and technical accounting duties involved in preparing and submitting billings, maintaining revenue and program records, and contacting patients, insurance companies and others to collect payments for services provided.  This position is limited duration (through June 30, 2020) and will be re-evaluated upon completion of the term.

Essential Duties:
•  Reviews, posts, balances financial transactions
•  Processes requests for disbursements to contract agencies
•  Uses various collection methods to settle accounts
•  Processes uncollectible accounts
•  Investigates accounts
•  Researches to determine primary payment responsibility of carriers
•  Provides information and assistance regarding billings to patients
•  Audits transactions and records to ensure accuracy and adherence to guidelines
•  Answers telephone calls and routes to appropriate staff member
•  Maintains transport records and scans documents as needed

Education/ Experience:
•  High School diploma or GED, and experience as necessitated;
•  1 year of specialized or technical training performing accounting or bookkeeping (Grade B21)
•  2-3 years of progressively responsible experience performing accounting or bookkeeping (Grade B22)

Preference may be given for:
•  Experience performing account collections
•  Experience in medical office administration support
•  Experience in medical billing
•  Ability to speak Spanish

Any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education and experience may be considered qualifying.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
•  Performing work involving independent judgment and requiring accuracy and speed
•  Creating and maintaining orderly and accurate records, files, and file systems
•  Gathering, compiling, organizing and interpreting information
•  Customer service methods and principles, including de-escalation skills
•  Basic mathematical and bookkeeping principles
•  Modern office methods and practices
•  Maintaining respectful and inclusive work relationships
•  Demonstrate professionalism and maintain a consistent, dependable working schedule
•  Using computers and related software applications (ex: Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, etc.)
•  Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, management, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Physical Requirements:
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work. Incumbents may be subject to travel.

Selection and Interview Process:
Top candidates will be invited to interview and complete a skills test.  Candidates will be emailed directly with additional information. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for the week of May 13, 2019.
